57:Fourteen started in 2009 and became a charity in October 2018.
Our charity number is 1180285.
We are set up for:
“For the public benefit, to promote the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders and ex-offenders, and to undertake preventative work with people who are at risk of offending, in Northwest England, Wales, Cheshire and the surrounding area by such charitable means as the trustees in their absolute discretion deem appropriate and within a Christian ethos.”
We have committee of committed individuals.
57-Fourteen Chairman Reverend John Sephton talks of his vision:
“I have a heart for the sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
On retirement I felt that the Lord was saying that the work that had been started whilst I was a Chaplain should be continued from the outside. That means supporting Chaplains today in their work and ideally with Volunteers to deliver either Alpha or Christianity Explored.
On release, should Men or Women want to be connected to a Church then we would facilitate that, by creating a ‘circle of support’ to help, enable that particular person to adjust to life outside, and not want to return to Prison.
We are basically a training organisation, focusing on the needs of the individual.
Our vision would be to release God given gifts in the individual and to enable them to take their rightful place in Community.
Whilst I was in HMP Risley we delivered thirteen Alpha Courses leading many to be Baptised and Confirmed, records show that either before or since, the numbers were greatest in this period.
On release, I made provision for ninety men to be connected to a Church, using the Parochial system. We used the contract used within the Anglican and Roman Catholic Church and taking into account that persons release conditions and working with other relevant agencies.
We have been working with this Vision since 2009.
A regular prayer meeting takes place every two months for 57:Fourteen.
